Planning for Extreme PKI began in May 2003, when the site began development as PKI Pictures as a photo gallery site. It was soon changed to a general PKI site, and the name Extreme PKI was born. After months of design and planning, the Extreme PKI Forums opened on October 12, 2003, and the main site was unveiled on December 14, 2003.
Extreme PKI Version 2, which provides an improved design and better content, opened on February 14, 2004.
Extreme PKI went down on January 1, 2005 and reopened after transferring to a new server and the domain ExtremePKI.com on January 5, 2005.
On March 21, 2005, ExtremePKI Version 3 was released after several months of work. Version 3 features the best design ExtremePKI has featured so far, along with massive content updates. Unlike the Version 1 to Version 2 conversion, the entire site was rebuilt for Version 3.
On February 3, 2006, a major refurbishment of the site was completed. Almost every page was adjusted and improved. Every attractions page was completely redesigned, with a detail page on every attraction in the park.
On January 28, 2007, the first part of an extensive remodeling and expansion of the Kings Island History section was released, featuring a heavily reorganized, expanded Historical Gallery featuring a large number of photos, park guides, brochures and postcards, as well as the new Historical Videos page.
On February 22, 2007, ExtremePKI.com was changed into KIExtreme.com following the acquisition of Paramount Parks by Cedar Fair, and the removal of the Paramount branding from Kings Island's name.
